About ABSTRACT

I joined NASC because I loved building things, experimenting with ideas, and seeing science come to life beyond the classroom. I started in the Project sector, where turning concepts into working models taught me that real science takes patience, problem-solving, teamwork, and a willingness to keep trying when things do not work the first time.

As President in 2018–19, I had the opportunity to take that experience further. I was involved in managing the club’s day-to-day operations, organising science exhibitions and competitions, coordinating student teams, and working with our executives to make some of our biggest events successful. Leading NASC during that time taught me a lot about responsibility, communication, teamwork, and how much effort goes into creating opportunities for other students.

From 2021 to 2025, I continued my journey with NASC as an Advisor. In this role, I focused on mentoring new executives, helping them plan and organise events, sharing lessons from my own experience, and supporting them as they developed the club in their own way. Seeing new generations of students take ownership of NASC and achieve things that we had once only imagined has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey with the club.

Today, I am a graduate student at Memorial University of Newfoundland, pursuing a MASc in Oil and Gas Engineering. My academic work has taken me deeper into subsurface reservoirs, petroleum engineering, seismic and well data, and the use of machine learning and computational tools to better understand complex subsurface systems. Although my field has evolved considerably, the curiosity that drives me to understand how things work began much earlier.

For me, NASC was never just a science club. It was where I first learned to turn an idea into something real, work with people who think differently, take responsibility for a team, and stay curious when a problem does not have an obvious answer. Those lessons have continued to…
